Ida Gray Nelson/Rollins: First African-American and 23rd Woman to Graduate from Dental School

Ida Gray Nelson/Rollins is not only the first African-American woman to graduate from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, but also the first to graduate from any dental school! In addition, she was the first black woman to practice dentistry in Chicago, and mentored other African-American women into the profession.
