Dr. Norris Edney was appointed interim president of Alcorn State University on January 21, 2010, by the Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning. Dr. Edney spent most of his career at Alcorn in various roles of teaching and administration. He is knowledgeable about the university and is well-respected among faculty and staff.

Virginia Hamilton: Award-Winning Author of of Children's Books

Virginia Hamiliton was an author for children and young adults, the first African American to win Newbery Medal (1974), and the first American to win Hans Christian Andersen Medal (1992). She remains the only African American who has written science fiction/fantasy featuring African American children, in the Justice trilogy.
