About The Black Scholars Index™
The Black Scholars Index™ is powered by Uplift, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the research and development of educational media and technology-based tools. In 2007, it spawned from an effort to create a web-based tool which could be used to enlighten and encourage today's African-American students to achieve academic greatness. Initially intended to serve only as a reference tool (or online information system) for them, it later became a tool which could be used to serve scholars as well and visually illustrate their combined impact and accomplishments, providing a great historical account. With all that is in store, The Black Scholars Index™ can and will tell an amazing story ! So, we need you to participate!
The development of The Black Scholars Index™ is multifaceted and will be accomplished in phases. It is first being announced in America and will spread to other countries as development progresses. Global data collection will start during February 2008, Black History Month in America, and will continue through April 2008 and beyond. This website is intended for promotional purposes and data collection. Backend development has already begun.

So, what do the three stripes in the logo and throughout the website mean? Glad you asked. The three stripes represent the three strips on the graduation gown of a PhD student. The idea to add them to the logo was inspired by a professor and student at the University of Maryland.
The Black Scholars Index™ is one of several web systems designed by Uplift, Inc. to provide inspiration, information, and potential answers and interventions to the challenge of the "academic achievement gap" in America and to learning in general. These web components are also in development and will be announced throughout the coming year.
Support The Black Scholars Index™
During this data collection phase, we are also fundraising to support design and development efforts, programming tools, and web resources needed to host this project. Supporters will be specifically listed as Founding Sponsors and donations are tax deductible.
