Dr. Widad Elmahboub: Math Professor at Hampton University

Dr. Widad Elmahboub is an assistant professor at the Mathematics Department at Hampton University. She will be featured this September in the 28th edition of Who’s Who of American Women. As an assistant professor in the HU Department of Mathematics, Elmahboub also serves as the team chair of the HU Research Center of Earth, Space and GIS Analysis (RCESG) Mathematics.

Education

She earned her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Environmental Engineering with emphasis in applied Mathematics and space Sciences. Her Master degree is in Engineering Physics and BS is in Astronomy.

Research

Her research interest is simulation and modeling for Planet Mars surface minerals. She developed a new methodology and algorithm to produce a highly accurate classification of earth resources using remote sensing/GIS.

She affiliated with NASA for utilization of large number of data in remote sensing and Mars research and also through graduate student research. She collaborated with Mathematics faculty and with the Physics Department and established the Research Center of Earth, Space and GIS analysis (RCESG) in the Mathematics Department at Hampton University through Department of Defense (DOD) grant.

She is active in Research and referred journal publications. She works hard with her undergraduate and graduate students on different research endeavors.

“I am very pleased,” stated Elmahboub regarding the recognition from Who’s Who of American Women. “Working hard always pays off.”

Her Biography has been published in Who’s Who in Science and Engineering 9th edition, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who Women in America.
