Dr. Judi Cinéas: Researcher & Author of Six Months to Dr.
Posted on 17. Dec, 2009 by Leshell Hatley in Scholarly Celebrations
Dr. Judi Cinéas is the author of Six Months To Dr.: How I Completed My Dissertation In Six Months and the founder of Living The Dream.
Education
Growing up, Judi Cinéas heard many people complain about their jobs for various reasons. She was determined not to become one of them, and knew that the best way for her to do this would be through education. Unwavering in her quest, she began by receiving a B.S. in Human Services from Lesley University. She returned to Florida and worked as an educator and Child Abuse Investigator before attending Florida Atlantic University where she earned a Master of Social Work degree. Dr. Judi Cinéas received her Ph.D. in Global Leadership from Lynn University where she specialized in Corporate and Organizational Management.
Judi had set a goal of completing her Ph.D. by her 30th birthday, and was well on her way to reaching that goal. “Fortunately” she believes, she encountered some hurdles which left her with six months to complete her dissertation. She rose to the challenge and subsequently wrote her book sharing with other students the tools she used to do this. “When I began working on my dissertation, I understood why so many people are still ABD (All But Dissertation), but through the process I learned that while it is difficult to complete a dissertation, there are many tools available to help students” Cinéas says. In her book Six Months to Dr. she points out some simple steps she took which allowed her to complete her dissertation in only six months. These are tools that are available at colleges and universities which are not being used by students.
Career
In addition to her book, Cinéas also added Thesis and Dissertation Coaching to her practice where she helps students navigate their way through their timely dissertations. In 2008 Dr. Cinéas left her position as a psychotherapist and founded Living The Dream, an organization rooted in her belief that people should do what they enjoy and enjoy what they do. Cinéas helps her coaching clients find guidance and support to help individuals overcome hurdles, especially in times of challenge or change. She provides coaching services focused on assisting individuals in tapping the resources within themselves to maximize their potential and reach their personal and professional goals.
Prior to starting Living The Dream, Cinéas worked in various areas of Mental Health and Social Services. Her last employer was a medium sized organization which placed therapists in South Florida communities.
“I loved my work then and it prepared me for what I do now, and I still get to use some of the same skills”.
Now her focus is on helping people get the most out of life. She also works with organizations on staff development and empowerment, leadership training and team buildings. Cinéas is a former Associate Editor of the AASA Journal of Scholarship and Practice and Independent Colleges and Universities as Florida Presidential Fellow.
Outside of work Cinéas “enjoy South Florida living even more” and engages in volunteer activities in education and politics, where she continues to broaden her knowledge in experience. “As a volunteer I have the opportunity to give back to my community while doing things I never would have done – Like campaigning or roofing”.
