Rachel & Rebecca Crouch: Emerging Artists, Educators & Leaders

Rachel & Rebecca Crouch: Emerging Artists, Educators & Leaders

Posted on 29. Oct, 2009 by Leshell Hatley in Chemistry, Scholarly Celebrations

Discover the soulful journey of twin emerging artists, scholars, and leaders from Chicago, Rachel and Rebecca Crouch. Both graduated from Howard University with degrees in Mathematics. Both are painters and educators. Both have aspirations to use their talent and intellect to educate youth with culturally relevant lessons in math and art history within elementary and college classrooms. Both should be watched for their coming accomplishments!

These Chicago natives were born of the seasoned and inspiring brush stroke of artist and mother, Dianne Crouch. As children, they were immediately immersed into the world of art and had no choice but to develop that natural born aptitude. They both produce work in varied media using color, texture, movement, and flow.

RACHEL CROUCH

Every good painter paints what he is.” -Jackson Pollock, American Abstract Expressionist artist.

This short phrase speaks to the work of Rachel Crouch. Her pieces are about the impossible and the discovery of promise.  Music, life, limits, and change are just a few themes prevalent in Rachel’s work.  Her poignant pieces are not only beautifully intoxicating stories, but also timeless works of art. Of her many accomplishments, the most recent was her performance at the 24th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards in Washington DC, where she and her twin sister painted a live mural in eight minutes. Indulge in the art of Rachel D. Crouch, where she tells her story, one painting at a time.

REBECCA CROUCH

Beyond talent lie all the usual words: discipline, love, luck – but, most of all, endurance.” – James Baldwin, American novelist.

Truer words were never spoken with regard to Rebecca Crouch. Drawing and painting is her indigenous gift and she produces art rich in both form and content that speaks to her endurance both personally and professionally. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Howard University, Rebecca returned to the south side of Chicago to pursue another one of her many passions, teaching. Currently teaching high school Math for Perspectives Charter Schools, Rebecca is providing opportunities for inner city students to be victorious in mathematics. Her flair for art and love of teaching are united in her classroom décor and pedagogy. Heartache, forgiveness, and new beginnings are just a few of the themes prevalent in Rebecca’s work. Her emotive pieces are not only eye-catching, but also, as Picasso states, wash away from the soul the dust of everyday life.   Please look for yourself and drown deep in the world of Rebecca D. Crouch – where life imitates art.

An affair of the senses is only a stroke away. – JLK

THIS JUST IN: Rebecca Crouch has been commissioned to paint the first African American painting that will hang in Northwestern’s Law School. It will be installed for Black History Month! It will be of Harold Washington.
