As a proud graduate of Fisk, I can point to a historical tradition that , above all else, insisted upon scholastic achievement. I have had the pleasure of being taught by some of the most brilliant men and women I've ever known...Dr. C.Eric Lincoln, Dr. Leon H. Sullivan, Dr. Edward Jackson, Dr. Abdul Alkalimat, Dr. Gail Plummer. Sonia Sanchez. Dr. Rita Smith. Dr. L. Alex Swan.. all of these individuals and many more have inspired and motivated me. "Mainstream society" rarely gets a chance to witness , let alone apprieciate, the breadth and depth of black scholarship throughout the diaspora . This site is a constant reminder to others that Black accomplishments transcend entertainment and sports and that there are hundreds of thousands of brothers and sisters who have distinguished themselves as intellectuals giants in their chosen fields of study.Keep up the good work, fight the good fight and I will continue tobe informed and enlightened by this mosy valuable website. I LOVE reading about and am deeply inspired by the stories of everyday black scholars who are truly using their education to make a difference in this world through their profession. Through each and every story or profile that I have read, I am encouraged and uplifted. I am reminded that we have an abundance of greatness in our communities across America that should not go unnoticed. These stories, in my opinion, are much more inspiring than the tried (but true and timeless) stories of the African-American greats that are in our history books. I feel more connected and driven by those who I can relate to in some way, whether it be through a shared interest, a shared upbringing, a shared discipline, or a shared educational background. Thank you, BSI! I am SO impressed by the Black Scholars Index.
